The Devin Townsend Project - Heart Baby

You know, after listening to all of Devins harder works, like his stuff from Strapping Young Lad and Deconstruction, I was almost shocked to hear this.

There’s no musician I respect more than a musician who can hang up their traditional style and play something completely out of the box.

This piece is so chill and beautiful, I absolutely love it. Devin Townsend has officially won my heart.

The Devin Townsend Project (Feat. Mikael Akerfeldt) - Stand

With the advent of my newfound fandom of Devin Townsend, I discovered this gem while listening to the Devin Townsend Projects album Deconstruction. A song featuring Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth and Storm Corrosion! If you’re looking to try something REALLY different, you should really give this album a listen. You wont regret it.

Opeth - Under the Weeping Moon (Live - The Roundhouse Tapes)

As much as I love the more chill pieces of Damnation and Heritage, you can’t not love Opeths Death Metal pieces. This song is perfect, it blends their classic Death Metal style, haunting prog interludes, beautiful solos.

This, my friends, is Opeth.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son

D’oh my god this song is very ‘60-’70s. Absolutely one of my favorites from the era.

Pantera - 5 Minutes Alone

Honestly, I haven’t been a fan of these guys for very long, but I feel bad for every second of my life that I wasn’t. Pantera is amazing, they a rare groove in their style of metal that you don’t really see in bands any more. Most, if not all, of it is thanks to then guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell.

Pendulum - Witchcraft

Another novel track by Drum & Bass rock artists Pendulum!

Dream Theater - Lines in the Sand

This gem from prog giants Dream Theater is unforgettable. It has traces of classic hair metal, traces of prog, an amazing guitar hook, a well put together cheesy alien/drum intro, and fantastic support from the bass player John Myung and then Keyboardist Derek Sherinian.

(This song is honestly heard best when heard with the Hell’s Kitchen into, but what can ya do?)

Gorillaz (feat. Andre 3000 & James Murphy) - Do Ya Thing

Ahh… Another beautiful morning with your favorite friends, 3D, Murdoc, Russell, Noodle and the Boogeyman. I can’t believe I haven’t seen this video up until now. Great video.

Alice in Chains - Grind

This is an accurate representation of what goes on in my head on a daily basis. The Layne Stayley era of Alice in Chains will go down in history of one of the greatest pioneers of the Grunge generation.
